Transcript Proofreading

What is PDF transcript proofreading?

A transcript proofreader is specially trained to spot and correct errors in verbatim transcripts that have been produced from legal proceedings, such as trials or depositions.

As court reporters are required to type extremely quickly, it’s not unusual for spelling or punctuation mistakes to occur in the transcript. These documents play a vital role in the legal process, so it’s crucial that every transcript is an accurate record of exactly what was said at the time. Even minor mistakes could potentially lead to misunderstandings or mistakes further down the line.

Despite advances in spellcheck and AI, current technology just isn’t smart enough to deal with the nuances of everyday speech.

That’s why most court reporters employ the services of a trained proofreader to ensure the finished transcript is accurate, readable, and error-free.

What will I be checking for?

Why do you need a proofreader?

We all make occasional mistakes. Some words are commonly misused or notoriously tricky to spell correctly. Even skilled court reporters make typographical errors, which are easy to miss when re-reading work. The spellcheck function is a wonderful invention, but it is certainly not foolproof!

A proofreader brings a set of fresh eyes to your work and eliminates the risk of any embarrassing errors. Using a professional proofreader is the only way to ensure your work will be 100% free of spelling errors or grammatical mistakes.
